Terms of Service — Metric Book Transcriber

1. Acceptance

By installing or using Metric Book Transcriber (“the Add-on”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Add-on.

2. Description

The Add-on is a free, open-source Google Docs™ Editor add-on that assists users in transcribing images of metric books (birth, marriage, and death registers) by sending selected images and document context to the Google™ AI (Gemini™) API.

3. Requirements

• A Google account.
• A Google™ AI (Gemini™) API key, which you obtain and manage yourself at Google AI Studio™.
• A Google Doc containing metric book images.

4. API Key and Costs

• You are solely responsible for your Google AI API key, its security, and any costs or quota usage associated with it.
• The Add-on stores your API key in Google Apps Script User Properties (private to your Google account). The Add-on developer does not have access to your key.
• Google may charge for Gemini API usage depending on your plan and volume. Check Google AI pricing for current terms.

5. Disclaimer of Warranty

THE ADD-ON IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

The developer does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any transcription produced by the Add-on. Transcription output depends on the Google AI (Gemini) model and the quality of the input images and context. Always review and verify results before relying on them.

6. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE ADD-ON, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

7. Data Handling

See the Privacy Policy for details on what data the Add-on accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored.

8. Modifications

The developer may update these Terms at any time by posting a revised version in this repository. Continued use of the Add-on after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Open Source

The Add-on source code is available at github.com/dekochka/geneascript-gdoc-addon. You are free to review, fork, and modify the code in accordance with the repository’s license.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Add-on and uninstall it at any time. The developer reserves the right to discontinue the Add-on at any time without notice.
